Colin James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority
Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority Colin James says Antigua and Barbuda is intensifying efforts to promote culinary tourism as part of a wider strategy to drive visitor spending during the traditionally slower summer months.
Speaking to reporters in Guadeloupe on Friday, James revealed that organizers of Caribbean Marketplace — which will bring more than 500 delegates to Antigua next week — have integrated local cuisine into the event experience.
“We want them to eat like a local,” James stated while explaining that delegates will be encouraged to patronize local restaurants and eateries throughout the conference.
He said Antigua and Barbuda’s popular “Restaurant Week” initiative has now evolved into “Restaurant Month,” reflecting growing participation across the local food industry.
According to James, nearly every restaurant and many smaller local food establishments are now involved in the initiative, demonstrating increased interest in culinary tourism opportunities.
Tourism officials have also introduced visitor “food passports” to encourage patrons to explore multiple dining locations during the promotional period.
James said the culinary campaign forms part of broader efforts to stimulate economic activity across the tourism sector during slower travel periods while showcasing Antigua and Barbuda’s food culture to international visitors.

We are always excited about these initiatives. Great stuff!!!
