Young Minds Take On Mosquito Awareness in Barbuda
Health officials and educators joined forces this week as part of Mosquito Awareness Week to educate young students in Barbuda about the dangers of the Aedes aegypti mosquito and the importance of preventing mosquito-borne illnesses.
The initiative brought together officials from the Central Board of Health, the Barbuda Public Health Department, and staff at Holy Trinity Primary School for an informative and interactive session aimed at raising awareness among students.

Grade One students actively participated in discussions and activities focused on understanding the mosquito’s life cycle, how it breeds, the health risks associated with it, and the role communities play in reducing breeding sites through proper sanitation and environmental care.
Organisers highlighted the importance of educating children from an early age, noting that simple actions such as keeping surroundings clean and eliminating standing water can significantly reduce mosquito populations and help protect communities.

The awareness session formed part of ongoing efforts to promote healthier and safer environments while empowering the nation’s younger generation with practical knowledge to combat mosquito-borne diseases. Officials also thanked all those involved for contributing to the success of the initiative.
