Chippy G Praised as Sugar Mill Riddim Brings Caribbean Flair to Antigua Carnival Season

As excitement builds for Antigua Carnival, a new musical collaboration is capturing the spirit of the season with the release of the Sugar Mill Riddim, a project blending Antiguan Benna and Trinidadian Calypso into a vibrant Caribbean sound.

The riddim is the product of a regional partnership involving Antiguan producer Devon “Chippy G” Joseph, the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission, DJ Quest, and Trinidadian producer Kitwana Israel of Advokit Productions.

Featuring artistes such as Zafema, Patrice Roberts, Tian Winter and Young Lyrics, the project aims to celebrate Caribbean culture, unity and musical excellence ahead of the country’s biggest festival.

Organizers describe the Sugar Mill Riddim as more than just a collection of songs, calling it a reflection of Antigua and Barbuda’s history, resilience and vibrant culture.

The release has also shone a spotlight on Chippy G’s growth within the music industry, with officials praising his commitment to developing his craft and expanding regional connections.

Minister of Sport and Creative Industries Dwayne George commended the producer’s persistence and dedication to continuous improvement.

“Chippy G’s journey demonstrates the value of dedication, persistence, and investing in one’s craft ” George said. “His willingness to embrace learning opportunities, build regional partnerships, and continuously sharpen his skills is exactly the kind of example we want to encourage within our creative industries.”

George added that the government remains focused on strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s cultural and entertainment sectors by supporting local talent and creating opportunities for creatives to grow both regionally and internationally.

Chairperson of the Festivals Commission, Elizabeth Makhoul, also praised the producer for his determination and discipline.

“Chippy G represents the kind of determination, discipline, and resilience that builds lasting success,” Makhoul said. “He has consistently embraced opportunities, invested in sharpening his craft, and remained committed to growth even when the work happened quietly behind the scenes.”

Reflecting on his journey, Joseph said years of traveling between Antigua and Trinidad, participating in workshops with KC Phillip, and learning both the technical and business aspects of music production played a major role in shaping his career.

He also credited industry supporter Lisa for helping create opportunities and connect him with key figures in the industry, while acknowledging Kitwana Israel for contributing to the writing, recording, mixing and mastering of tracks on the project.

“I have been quietly putting in the work over the years, and I am grateful to now see the results bearing fruit,” Joseph said.

The Sugar Mill Riddim is now available on major streaming platforms and is expected to feature prominently throughout Antigua Carnival events and promotions this season.
