Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, Michael Joseph, has begun a strategic review of the country’s healthcare system following high-level discussions with the executive management team of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre earlier today.
The meeting formed part of the minister’s ongoing assessment of healthcare operations as the Government moves to identify priorities, strengthen services, and improve the overall delivery of patient care across Antigua and Barbuda.
Among those participating in the discussions were Permanent Secretary Stacey Gregg-Paige, Medical Director Dr. Shivon Belle-Jarvis, Director of Administration Danley Phillip, Director of Operations Marlon Jones, Financial Controller Aldin Crump, Quality Assurance Manager Kathleen Brathwaite, Acting Human Resources Manager Olson Browne, and Head of Nursing Jacqueline Jno Baptiste.
According to the Ministry, the discussions focused on the current state of the hospital, operational challenges, staffing and administrative needs, and areas requiring both immediate intervention and long-term planning.
Officials also examined strategies aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening internal systems, and enhancing the quality and timeliness of healthcare services provided to patients.
Minister Joseph said the engagement is part of a wider effort to gain a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare sector as the ministry prepares to implement reforms and initiatives designed to modernize healthcare delivery.
The discussions were described as frank and solution-oriented, with timelines and key priorities identified for further review and implementation.
The minister reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working closely with hospital leadership and staff to ensure meaningful improvements are made in the nation’s healthcare system.
