The government says a consortium of banks has agreed to provide EC$150 million to support major road rehabilitation works across Antigua and Barbuda.

The announcement came during Tuesday’s Throne Speech delivered by Governor General Sir Rodney Williams.

According to the speech, the financing will support continued repairs and upgrades to major highways and community roads throughout the country. The funding will reportedly be backed by a small annual user fee paid by vehicle owners.

The government pointed to several recently upgraded roadways, including the Sir George Walter Highway, Friars Hill Road, Sir Sidney Walling Highway, Valley Road and the Parham to Willikies corridor.

All Saints Road was also identified as undergoing major renewal works.
