Works Minister Maria Browne was praised during Tuesday’s Throne Speech for overseeing what the government described as major improvements to roads and highways across Antigua.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams highlighted a series of upgraded roadways, including the Sir George Walter Highway, Friars Hill Road, Sir Sidney Walling Highway and Valley Road.

The speech described Browne as energetic, competent and determined, noting that she is the first female to serve as Minister of Works.

Government also acknowledged ongoing challenges caused by aging underground water pipes, which officials say have complicated road repairs in several communities.

The administration insisted that road conditions are steadily improving despite disruptions linked to major utility upgrades.
