A creative and environmentally conscious initiative officially got underway on Friday as work began on a large-scale bottle cap mural of the CHOGM 2026 logo at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG).

The project, organized by the CHOGM 2026 Secretariat, is transforming recycled bottle caps into a vibrant public artwork aimed at promoting sustainability, creativity, and community involvement ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.

The mural is being led by Artistic Director Calvin Pilgrim, whose vision and artistic expertise are helping to bring the unique installation to life. Volunteers, students, organizations, and members of the public joined together for the launch, contributing to what organizers described as a meaningful national effort centered on environmental awareness and civic pride.

The recycled bottle caps used in the project were generously donated by Good Humans 268, an organization known for its commitment to recycling and environmental stewardship in Antigua and Barbuda.

Among those in attendance was Hon. E.P. Chet Greene, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration and Chair of the CHOGM 2026 Task Force, who praised the initiative as a reflection of the country’s broader sustainability goals.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to sustainability and community engagement. It is a reminder that small actions, like recycling, can create something beautiful and meaningful for our nation,” Greene said.

Briana Anthony, Public Relations Officer within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lead for Local Media Outreach at the CHOGM 2026 Secretariat, said the project is designed to unite communities while encouraging environmental responsibility.

“The purpose of the initiative is to bring communities together through art while promoting environmental consciousness and national pride. It is an opportunity for everyone to contribute creatively to CHOGM 2026,” Anthony said.

Organizers say the mural will serve as both a visual landmark and a symbol of Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to sustainability and innovation as the country prepares to host CHOGM 2026.
