A police motorcycle officer remains hospitalized after being injured in a traffic accident along Sir Sydney Walling Highway on Monday afternoon.

The injured officer has been identified as 23-year-old Te’field Charles, who was reportedly on duty at the time of the incident.

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 4:29 p.m. on June 1 near the TURF area. Investigators say a white Honda CR-V, driven by a 52-year-old woman from Clarkes Hill, was travelling from north to south on an unnamed by-road.

It is alleged that upon reaching the junction with Sir Sydney Walling Highway, the driver proceeded through the intersection and collided with the police motorcycle, which was travelling west along the highway.

Emergency Medical Services personnel responded swiftly to the scene and transported the officer to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre for treatment.

Police said the officer sustained a fractured right ankle along with bruises to various parts of his body. His condition has been described as stable.

The police motorcycle reportedly sustained extensive damage, while the Honda CR-V received minor damage in the collision.

Authorities are once again appealing to motorists to exercise caution when approaching intersections and entering major roadways. Drivers are being urged to obey traffic signs and ensure it is safe to proceed in order to help reduce road accidents and protect all road users.
