The Parham Alliance Beautification and Revitalization Organization (PABRO) is continuing its commitment to environmental conservation and community stewardship through a new initiative at Byams Wharf, funded by the Antigua and Barbuda Environment Foundation (ABEF).

Byams Wharf is recognized as both an Important Bird Area (IBA) and a Key Biodiversity Area (KBA), underscoring its ecological significance within the Parham community and Antigua and Barbuda as a whole.

However, the site has faced ongoing environmental challenges due to repeated incidents of illegal dumping, leading to the accumulation of solid waste and posing a threat to its fragile ecosystem.

The project seeks to address these concerns through a comprehensive approach that combines environmental restoration with enhanced protection measures.

Activities will include the removal of solid waste and other debris from the area to improve environmental conditions and restore the site’s natural beauty.

In addition, the initiative will focus on strengthening surveillance and monitoring efforts aimed at identifying individuals responsible for illegal dumping and discouraging future violations. These measures are expected to play a critical role in safeguarding the area and ensuring the long-term sustainability of conservation efforts.

Funding for the project has been provided by the Antigua and Barbuda Environment Foundation (ABEF), while implementation and project management are being carried out by PABRO.

“PABRO remains committed to preserving and protecting the natural habitat that makes Byams Wharf a unique environmental treasure,” said Stallone Gardner, Public Relations Officer of PABRO. “While clean-up activities are essential, lasting success depends on changing behaviours and preventing further abuse of the site. Enhanced surveillance and community awareness will be key components of achieving that goal.”

PABRO hopes the project will contribute to the long-term protection of Byams Wharf while fostering greater public awareness about responsible waste disposal, environmental stewardship, and the importance of preserving Antigua and Barbuda’s natural heritage

The organization extends its sincere appreciation to the Antigua and Barbuda Environment Foundation for its support and partnership in advancing environmental conservation efforts within the Parham community.
