Harris Paints has positioned itself at the forefront of global paint innovation with the launch of Quantum Dry™, a revolutionary tinting technology the company says is the first of its kind anywhere in the world.

The Caribbean-based manufacturer unveiled the new system during a special launch event at its corporate headquarters in Barbados this week, marking another milestone in a journey of innovation that began with the introduction of its Quantum i12 colour system four years ago.

The latest advancement allows decorative paints to be tinted using dry pigment pearls within a single-base colour system, a combination that industry officials say has never before been achieved commercially.

According to Harris Paints, Quantum Dry builds upon the success of the Quantum i12 platform, which transformed traditional paint tinting by eliminating the need for multiple paint bases. The system enabled retailers to produce a wider range of cleaner, more consistent colours using a single base, while reducing inventory requirements and improving operational efficiency.

Since its introduction, the technology has expanded beyond the Caribbean through The Quantum Corporation, a subsidiary created to drive ongoing innovation. The company has since incorporated artificial intelligence-driven colour matching capabilities and now licenses its technology to paint manufacturers around the world, with products reaching markets as far away as Italy and Bangladesh.

The newly launched Quantum Dry system takes the technology a step further by replacing conventional liquid colourants with solid pigment pearls developed by global colour solutions company Vibrantz Technologies.

Angelo Vincenzi, co-Chief Executive Officer of The Quantum Corporation, said the new approach simplifies the tinting process while improving reliability.

“The beauty of dry tinting is its simplicity,” Vincenzi explained. “Vibrantz Technologies has developed a specialized process that encapsulates pure pigment, without water, into a dry pearl. This makes the Quantum Dry tint system cleaner, simpler and very robust.”

Dry pigment tinting has been gaining momentum internationally, particularly in Europe where environmental standards continue to tighten. However, Harris Paints says the technology has not previously been introduced in the Caribbean and has traditionally been limited to multi-base paint systems.

Antonio Vasconcellos, co-CEO of The Quantum Corporation, said sustainability was a major factor behind the development.

“Quantum Dry is a more sustainable approach to tinting,” he said. “By reducing additives, introducing more easily recyclable packaging, and limiting the carbon footprint, the system significantly reduces environmental impact without sacrificing performance.”

Harris Paints’ Colour Delivery Manager, Don Gooding, noted that the Quantum i12 platform has already delivered significant benefits for retailers across the region by simplifying stock management and improving colour consistency.

He described the introduction of Quantum Dry as another major step forward for the company.

“We are thrilled to be the first paint supplier in the world to partner with Quantum and Vibrantz to access this new dry technology for single-base tint systems,” Gooding said.

The company plans to introduce Quantum Dry first through its environmentally friendly Ulttima Pure Zero VOC Interior Flat Emulsion paint line. The product will initially be available exclusively at Harris Paints’ Wildey location in Barbados before expanding to additional products and markets over the coming year.

Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Luke Ticknor said the launch reflects Harris Paints’ continued commitment to innovation and sustainability.

“With Quantum Dry, we are not simply launching a new colour system, but we are helping to shape the future of sustainable paint technology,” Ticknor said.

The launch further cements Harris Paints’ growing reputation as a Caribbean company driving innovation on the global stage, demonstrating how technology developed in the region is influencing the future direction of the international paint industry.
