Antigua and Barbuda is poised to further cement its reputation as a regional cricket powerhouse following presentations by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons outlining ambitious plans for the continued growth and development of the sport.

Cricket West Indies revealed proposals for the establishment of a new Cricket West Indies Campus at its Coolidge headquarters, featuring an international-standard cricket facility designed to position Antigua and Barbuda as a premier destination for cricket, sports tourism and sports education in the Caribbean.

The proposed campus, estimated to cost approximately US$6.6 million, is expected to be completed by March 2027. Plans for the facility include modern training amenities, upgraded technology, a cricket museum and a cricket simulator, all while preserving and showcasing the rich history and legacy of West Indies cricket.

Discussions also focused on reviving cricket at the grassroots level, particularly in primary schools. Cricket West Indies stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between schools, the Ministry of Sports and national sporting organisations to rebuild the game’s foundation and encourage greater participation among boys and girls.

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons also outlined preparations for the upcoming cricket season, including training camps, community outreach initiatives and programmes designed to support the physical and mental development of players.

The franchise highlighted plans to create opportunities for talented young Antiguan and Barbudan cricketers to access training and exchange programmes in cricketing nations such as England, Australia and India, providing pathways for players to develop their skills and gain international exposure.

The Falcons also updated officials on their recent engagement with Antigua and Barbuda’s Spanish-speaking community at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The initiative seeks to broaden the team’s fan base and promote greater inclusivity through Spanish-language promotional materials, including a Spanish version of the Falcons’ theme song and targeted community outreach activities.

Discussions further centred on the continued development of national cricketers Rahkeem Cornwall, Alzarri Joseph and Karima Gore. Officials recognized the athletes’ immense talent and reaffirmed support for initiatives that will provide them with specialized training, mentorship opportunities and greater international exposure.

The presentations underscored a shared vision of strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s status as the home of cricket in the Eastern Caribbean while creating new opportunities for youth development, sports tourism and community engagement through the continued growth of the game.
