Emergency responders are continuing an extensive search operation off Pigeon Point Beach after a man from the Swetes community reportedly disappeared while swimming on Wednesday.
According to police, the man entered the water earlier in the day for what appeared to be a routine swim. Sometime later, he reportedly encountered difficulties and was seen signaling for help before disappearing beneath the surface.
The incident triggered an immediate emergency response, with multiple agencies joining forces in an effort to locate him.
Divers from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force Coast Guard, members of the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR) team, and personnel from a private diving company have been searching the waters surrounding Pigeon Point. The operation remained active up to press time.
Police have not released the man’s identity, but confirmed he is believed to be a resident of Swetes.
Authorities are appealing to members of the public to stay away from the immediate search area to allow rescue teams to carry out their work safely and without obstruction.
The search remains ongoing, and police say updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.
