The management of Jumby Bay says it has taken immediate action following concerns about the disposal of seaweed near Parham.
In a statement issued by the company’s executive management team, Jumby Bay said it discussed the matter with Minister of Social and Urban Transformation Rawdon Turner on Tuesday morning after the issue was brought to its attention.
According to the company, the contractor responsible for the disposal has been instructed to remove the seaweed without delay.
“The issue was brought to our attention during that conversation, and immediate steps were taken to address it. The contractor responsible has been directed to remove the seaweed without delay, and we are enhancing further oversight measures to ensure full compliance with environmental requirements going forward,” the statement said.
Jumby Bay also said it is implementing additional oversight measures to ensure compliance with environmental standards in the future.
The company acknowledged the concerns raised by residents and reiterated its commitment to protecting the environment and maintaining positive relationships with surrounding communities.
“We recognize the importance of preserving the beauty and wellbeing of Antigua’s communities and environment, and we remain committed to earning and maintaining the trust of those we serve through responsible action and continuous improvement,” the statement added.
The response follows public concerns over the dumping of seaweed near the Parham community, which prompted calls for its removal and adherence to proper environmental practices.
