Police are investigating a report that a 67-year-old woman was raped after an intruder forced his way into her home during the early hours of last Wednesday morning.

According to a report in Newsco, the woman told investigators she was awakened around 3:30 a.m. after noticing a man entering her property. She said she attempted to secure her door using wire and warned the individual not to come inside.

However, the suspect allegedly forced the door open, breaking the chain lock and causing damage to the entrance.

According to the woman’s account, the intruder then sexually assaulted her and threatened to cut her throat if she raised an alarm. A struggle reportedly ensued inside the home before the suspect fled the scene.

The victim described the suspect as a dark-complexioned man with upright hair. She told investigators that the man was not wearing a mask and that she recognized his facial features.

Police have since processed the scene as part of their investigation. The woman said she has urged investigators to apprehend the suspect as soon as possible and appealed to members of the public to contact police if they see him.

The Directorate of Gender Affairs has also been notified of the incident.

Up to publication time, police had not provided an update on the status of the investigation.
