
A new Board of Directors has officially taken the helm at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) following a swearing-in ceremony held at Government House on Friday.
The ceremony was attended by Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, Hon. Michael Joseph, who welcomed the newly appointed members and expressed confidence in their ability to provide the leadership and governance needed to guide the country’s premier healthcare institution into its next phase of growth.
The newly appointed Board comprises Dr. Philmore Benjamin, Dr. Edmond Mansoor, Casmin Greene, Akeem Edwards, Randy Agrippa, Keva Dean, Martin Camacho, Dr. Karen Josiah, Kevin Silston and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kamaria DeCastro.

Addressing the members following the oath of office, Minister Joseph said the Board’s collective expertise places it in a strong position to strengthen the institution and support the Government’s vision for healthcare.
“The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre plays a pivotal role in the delivery of healthcare services in our country, and I am confident that this Board possesses the knowledge, leadership and commitment required to guide the institution through its next phase of development,” the Minister said.
He noted that the diverse professional backgrounds represented on the Board will enhance strategic decision-making while ensuring that the interests of patients, healthcare workers and the wider public remain at the forefront.
Minister Joseph reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to investing in and modernising the nation’s healthcare system, emphasizing that strong governance is essential to delivering quality care and improving operational performance.
“I look forward to working closely with the Board as we continue to improve healthcare delivery, enhance operational efficiency and ensure the highest standards of accountability and transparency,” he said.
He added that the Government remains committed to building a modern, resilient and patient-centred healthcare system capable of meeting the evolving needs of the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Minister also thanked the outgoing Board of Directors for its service and contribution to the advancement of the institution, while encouraging the newly appointed members to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, professionalism and a spirit of collaboration.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs extended congratulations to the new Board and expressed its commitment to working alongside its members to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve outcomes for patients across Antigua and Barbuda.
