Maliek Francis

Antigua and Barbuda’s Maliek Francis produced a standout performance at the OECS Championships, capturing the male javelin title in record-breaking fashion with a throw of 66.11 metres.

Francis’ effort not only secured him the championship gold but also rewrote the national record books, surpassing the previous mark of 65.70 metres set by Oraine Brown in Mexico on July 6, 2012 during the NACAC U23 Championships.

The record-breaking throw also established a new stadium record at the Kim Collins Athletics Facility, eclipsing the previous best of 60.40 metres set by Abijah Nemdhari on June 21, 2026.

By the end of the competition, Francis had delivered a statement performance, claiming two major records in a single throw and further strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s showing at the championships.

Francis’ achievement adds another highlight to the nation’s athletics campaign and cements his place in the country’s javelin history.
