Foreign Affairs Minister and Chairman of the CHOGM 2026 National Task Force, E.P. Chet Greene

Foreign Affairs Minister and Chairman of the CHOGM 2026 National Task Force, E.P. Chet Greene has declared Antigua and Barbuda ready to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting next year, following a successful full-scale simulation exercise on Friday.

Greene, who is currently in Peru on official duty, said he closely monitored the exercise from abroad through real-time updates, reports and discussions with members of his team on the ground.

The exercise tested the country’s preparedness across several critical areas, including security, emergency response, logistics and public communication.

In a message to citizens and residents, Greene described the simulation as a “Rigorous, necessary and successful exercise,” saying it demonstrated the strength of the systems being put in place ahead of the major international event.

“I have followed today’s simulation exercise closely from afar, monitoring updates, reviewing real-time reports and engaging with my team on the ground. Distance has not diminished my confidence nor my pride in what we have collectively achieved,” Greene said.

The minister thanked members of the public for their patience and cooperation during the temporary disruptions caused by the exercise, saying their response reflected the country’s national spirit.

He also praised law enforcement agencies, CHOGM personnel and emergency response teams for their professionalism and coordination throughout the operation.

Greene highlighted the work of medical teams and disaster management units, commending their swift response and describing their readiness as “Viv Richards-like.”

The minister also acknowledged the role of the media in keeping the public informed through responsible reporting.

Following the exercise, Greene said he was confident that Antigua and Barbuda had the necessary structures and capacity to successfully host the Commonwealth summit.

“This exercise has confirmed what I already knew: Antigua and Barbuda is ready. Our systems are robust, our people are prepared and our hospitality is unmatched,” he said.

Greene extended an invitation to Commonwealth leaders and delegates to experience Antigua and Barbuda during CHOGM 2026, promising a well-organised and memorable gathering.

“Come to Antigua. We are prepared to receive you, to host you with pride and to facilitate a CHOGM that will be both productive and memorable,” he said.

Antigua and Barbuda is scheduled to host CHOGM 2026, bringing together leaders from across the Commonwealth for discussions on global and regional issues.
