The St. John Hospice has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening end-of-life care in Antigua and Barbuda following its Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Government House on Thursday, July 9.

The meeting brought together members of the Hospice’s Board of Directors along with the organisation’s patrons, Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams, to review the Hospice’s performance and discuss plans for its continued growth and sustainability.

Chairman Pedro Corbin presented the Board’s report for the financial year ending December 31, 2025, highlighting progress in governance, fundraising, infrastructure improvements and initiatives aimed at securing the Hospice’s long-term future.

Treasurer Pauline Perry also presented the audited financial statements, which showed the organisation recorded a modest operating surplus during the year.

Board members welcomed the positive financial results and acknowledged the vital role played by donors, volunteers, corporate partners and supporters in helping the Hospice continue its mission of providing compassionate end-of-life care.

Discussions during the meeting focused on strategies to strengthen fundraising efforts, expand digital giving platforms and increase public awareness of the Hospice’s services. Lady Williams contributed several recommendations, offering practical suggestions to support the organisation’s future outreach and fundraising initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Sir Rodney praised the Board, management, staff and volunteers for their dedication to caring for patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

He commended the Hospice for maintaining strong governance and responsible financial management while delivering quality care with dignity and compassion.

The Governor-General also encouraged the wider public to support the Hospice through volunteerism, charitable giving and advocacy, describing the institution as an indispensable national asset that continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many Antiguans and Barbudans.

Following the AGM, members of the Board toured the recently renovated sections of Government House, where they viewed ongoing restoration works designed to preserve one of the country’s most significant historic landmarks.

The Board expressed its appreciation for the opportunity to visit the property and joined Their Excellencies in encouraging members of the public to visit Government House and support the continued preservation of its architectural and cultural heritage.
