Reported shark sighting at Ffryes Beach

Beachgoers are being urged to remain vigilant after a shark was reportedly spotted close to shore at Fryes Beach on Sunday, adding to growing concerns over recent shark sightings in Antigua and Barbuda’s coastal waters.

Witnesses reported seeing the shark swimming near the shoreline, prompting concern among swimmers and others enjoying the popular beach.

The latest sighting comes just weeks after a fisherman from Urlings suffered serious injuries when he was bitten on the hand by a shark while at sea. The fisherman continues to recover from the attack.

While shark encounters remain relatively uncommon, the recent incidents have heightened awareness among residents and visitors using the island’s beaches and coastal waters.

Sea bathers, snorkelers and other water users are being advised to exercise caution, remain alert while in the water, and avoid swimming if sharks or unusual marine activity are observed nearby.
