The Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) has commenced pipe installation works along a section of Market Street as part of ongoing efforts to improve the reliability and resilience of the water supply system serving St. John’s City.
The utility’s Water Business Unit said its Horizontal Directional Drilling team will be carrying out works between Newgate Street and Church Street. The project will allow for the decommissioning of the existing pipes along Newgate Street while creating a new connection within the city’s water distribution network.
APUA explained that St. John’s City is currently supplied by the Grays Hill Reservoir, but the upgrade forms part of a wider contingency plan designed to provide additional support from the Fort James Reverse Osmosis Plant when necessary.
The authority said the works are part of its continued investment in strengthening water infrastructure and improving the ability to maintain supply during periods of increased demand or operational challenges.
During this period, motorists and pedestrians are being advised to expect minor traffic disruptions in the area. The public is asked to exercise caution, follow posted guidance, and cooperate with work crews operating along the roadway.
APUA thanked residents, businesses, and commuters for their patience and understanding as the project progresses.
