Cabinet endorsed plans for a modern Veterinary and Livestock Development Complex at Betty’s Hope, describing it as a transformative investment in national food security.

The first phase of the EC$15 million project will include a modern abattoir for sheep, goats and pigs, alongside a poultry processing facility.

Officials said the wider vision includes veterinary services, livestock production, food processing, research, training and agribusiness development under one integrated complex.

Government officials believe the project will strengthen domestic food production, improve food safety, reduce reliance on imported meat and create new employment opportunities while positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a regional leader in livestock production.

Cabinet also endorsed the creation of an agricultural security framework to protect livestock assets, infrastructure and genetic resources.
