With Antigua Carnival set to get underway this weekend, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has opened a satellite police post at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) to strengthen security at the country’s main festival venue.

The facility, located at the site formerly occupied by the Sir Vivian Richards Players’ Pavilion, is now fully operational and will serve as a command point for officers throughout the Carnival season, which runs from July 25 to August 4.

The move is part of the police’s wider security strategy aimed at maintaining law and order during one of the busiest periods of the year, when thousands of patrons are expected to attend events at Carnival City.

Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers said the satellite post represents an important addition to the Force’s Carnival security arrangements. He noted that its location will allow officers to maintain a stronger presence in and around the venue while providing a dedicated space from which they can coordinate operations and respond quickly to incidents.

Police officials said the post has been outfitted with the essential services needed to support officers on duty, ensuring they have a functional and comfortable base during the celebrations.

The Police Administration credited the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission for partnering with the Force to make the initiative possible.

It also acknowledged the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) for providing the utility services required to operate the facility and thanked Townhouse Mega Store for donating a desk telephone for use at the post.

The satellite police post will remain open for the duration of Carnival, with an increased police presence expected during major shows and events at the ARG.
