Cabinet has approved an official delegation to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the State Funeral of Caribbean cricket legend Sir Garfield Sobers in Barbados next week.

The delegation will include Sports Minister Dwayne George, National Hero Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Curtly Ambrose, Sir Andy Roberts and Sir Richie Richardson.

Cabinet said the delegation reflects the nation’s deep admiration for Sir Garfield, whose achievements transcended cricket and inspired generations throughout the Caribbean.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne recently led national tributes following Sir Garfield’s passing, describing him as a sporting giant whose excellence elevated Caribbean cricket on the international stage.

Cabinet also noted that flags continue to fly at half-mast across Antigua and Barbuda as a mark of respect.

The State Funeral will take place on Wednesday, July 29, at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown before Sir Garfield is laid to rest at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens in Christ Church.

Cabinet extended condolences to the Government and people of Barbados, Sir Garfield’s family and the wider Caribbean cricket community, describing his contribution to regional identity and sport as unmatched.
