Cabinet has received an update on the Government’s ambitious road rehabilitation programme, which is being financed through an EC$100 million bond and a US$33 million Caribbean Development Bank loan.
The Financial Secretary and senior officials from the Ministry of Works told Cabinet that financing arrangements are progressing as planned and that disbursement of the CDB loan is expected within days once final contractual requirements are completed.
Cabinet said the investments are expected to significantly accelerate road rehabilitation across Antigua and Barbuda.
Particular attention was given to road works in Barbuda, where construction of the Two Mile Road linking the airport to River Dock is expected to begin shortly and be completed within eight weeks.
An independent project monitor has been appointed to oversee the work, while a contractor with an established presence in both Antigua and Barbuda has been selected to execute the project.
Several additional roads in Barbuda have also been identified for rehabilitation.
Minister Maria Browne said the investments represent one of the country’s largest road infrastructure programmes in recent years and will improve connectivity, resilience and national development.
Cabinet said the public will continue to receive updates as additional road projects are rolled out nationwide.
