
Police have launched an investigation after a Bellevue Estate man was shot in the neck by a masked gunman late Monday night in what appears to have been a targeted attack.
The victim, identified as Alvin Spencer, was reportedly ambushed shortly after arriving at his Bellevue Estate home around 9:30 p.m. on July 27.
According to the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, Spencer had just pulled up at his residence when a suspicious vehicle stopped behind his own. A masked individual dressed in dark clothing allegedly exited the vehicle and fired several shots before fleeing the area in the waiting vehicle.
Spencer sustained a gunshot wound to the neck and was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery. Police said he remains in stable condition
Investigators have not disclosed a motive for the shooting and have not indicated whether they believe the victim was specifically targeted. No arrests have been made.
Police are now appealing to members of the public for assistance as they work to identify those responsible.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or observed a suspicious vehicle in the Bellevue Estate area around the time of the shooting is urged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914. Anonymous information can also be provided through Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
The Police Administration said it remains committed to bringing those responsible to justice and is encouraging anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
