Burglars Break Into AIDS Secretariat, Escape With Air Conditioner, TV and Other Stolen Items

The AIDS Secretariat on Long Street was the target of a burglary over the weekend, with thieves reportedly making off with an air-conditioning unit, a television and several other items after breaking into the government office.

According to reports, the break-in occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, and 7 a.m. on Monday, July 27, while the building was unoccupied.

Investigators believe the intruders gained access to the property by removing six panes of louvre glass from a western window. They allegedly attempted to force open the burglar bars using a mechanical implement but were unsuccessful. Despite this, they managed to enter the building and continued their search inside.

Once inside, the suspects reportedly forced open the door to the accountant’s office before rummaging through the premises.

Among the items reported stolen were an air-conditioning unit, a television, two pairs of shoes, a jacket, a quantity of sanitary products, two tins of coffee and a quantity of eggs.

Police carried out searches in the surrounding area in an effort to locate the stolen property, but the items were not recovered.

Investigations into the burglary are ongoing as officers work to identify those responsible and recover the stolen items. Police have not yet announced any arrests in connection with the incident.
