V.C. Bird International Airport Introduces Advanced Self-Service Kiosks to Improve Passenger Experience

Passengers travelling through V.C. Bird International Airport will now benefit from a faster and more convenient departure process following the introduction of a new generation of self-service kiosks, including one specially designed to accommodate travellers with mobility challenges.

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority unveiled 15 new TS6 Flagship Kiosks on Thursday as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize airport operations and enhance the overall passenger experience.

Unlike the airport’s previous self-service kiosks, which were limited to printing boarding passes, the new machines can also produce baggage tags, allowing passengers to complete more of the check-in process on their own before proceeding to airline baggage drop points.

The initiative is being driven by the airport’s Information Technology Department, which has been spearheading efforts to introduce smarter technology throughout the airport.

Information Technology Manager Jasen Lewis said the installation represents more than just a hardware upgrade, describing it as part of a broader digital transformation taking place at the country’s main international gateway.

He noted that the kiosks are designed to be future-ready and can be upgraded as passenger expectations and aviation technology continue to evolve.

Lewis said the airport is already preparing for the next phase of self-service technology, which will eventually allow passengers to check in, print baggage tags and drop off their luggage without visiting a traditional check-in counter.

“While we are considered a small island state, and managing airports comes with its own unique challenges, this does not limit our ability or ambition to offer first-class service,” Lewis said. “We remain committed to using technology to modernize the passenger experience and raise the standard of service at V.C. Bird International Airport.”

The latest installation also marks an important milestone in accessibility at the airport with the addition of an ADA-compliant, wheelchair-accessible kiosk.

Customer Experience Manager Jan Walker-Brown said the new feature ensures that passengers with mobility challenges can independently access the same self-service check-in technology available to all travellers.

“Passengers who are differently abled, including those using wheelchairs, must be able to access the same level of convenience and service as other travellers,” she said.

Airport officials said the response from airline partners has already been encouraging, with carriers reporting positive feedback from passengers who have welcomed the improved speed and expanded functionality of the new kiosks.

The Airport Authority says the investment reflects its continued commitment to delivering a more efficient, inclusive and technology-driven travel experience while positioning V.C. Bird International Airport to meet the evolving demands of modern aviation.

  1. These self service machines have been at the airport for the past three years. I used it every time I traveled even April this year 2026.

  2. I hope they keep up with frequent maintenance for these upgraded kiosks machines. Something government is lacking in for years when it comes preventative maintenance.
