King Young Destroyer has been crowned the 2026 Cavalier Rum Calypso Monarch, emerging victorious after a night of spirited competition that celebrated the lyrical brilliance, wit and cultural significance of calypso during Antigua Carnival.
The finals, held before an enthusiastic audience, featured some of the country’s top calypsonians competing for the prestigious title. King Young Destroyer’s winning performance earned him the Calypso Monarch crown along with the top prize of EC$30,000.

Dr. Solo finished as first runner-up, securing EC$20,000, while Lyrical Reds claimed second runner-up honours and EC$10,000.
The competition also recognised outstanding performances in several special categories. Dr. Solo received the Philbert Mason Award for Best Social Commentary, highlighting the strength of his message and lyrical delivery.

The Most Humorous Award was presented to Me Lip No Stick for the performance of Take Their Money, while Dr. Paul was named Most Improved Calypsonian, recognising his development and impact throughout this year’s competition.

The annual Calypso Monarch competition remains one of the premier events on the Antigua Carnival calendar, providing a platform for performers to entertain while addressing social, political and cultural issues through music.
Organisers congratulated all the calypsonians who took part in this year’s competition, commending them for preserving the rich tradition of calypso and delivering another memorable night of entertainment during Antigua Carnival 2026.
