Police Hail Safe and Largely Incident-Free Antigua Carnival 2026

The Police Administration has praised the public, law enforcement officers and other stakeholders following what it described as a safe and largely incident-free Antigua Carnival 2026.

In a statement on Thursday, the Police Administration said the festivities concluded without any major incidents of violence or serious injuries, marking a positive outcome for one of the country’s largest annual celebrations.

Police attributed the success in part to the cooperation and responsible conduct of revellers, particularly during major events such as J’Ouvert and Last Lap.

Although a small number of people were arrested after allegedly being found with prohibited weapons, police said the overwhelming majority of revellers complied with safety advisories and security measures put in place throughout the Carnival period.

Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers also commended members of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda for their professionalism and dedication in maintaining public order and protecting residents, visitors, businesses and property.

Special recognition was given to the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF), which worked alongside police throughout the festivities.

Jeffers thanked Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Telbert Benjamin and members of the ABDF for their support, saying the cooperation between the two security agencies contributed significantly to the peaceful outcome.

“I am particularly pleased with the level of professionalism, discipline, and dedication demonstrated by the officers and soldiers of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force,” Jeffers said.

“Their seamless collaboration with our officers played a significant role in ensuring that Carnival 2026 was celebrated in a safe and secure environment for everyone.”

The Commissioner also thanked the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission for its partnership and coordination with the security forces in facilitating the safe staging of Carnival events.

Members of the media were also recognised for assisting the police in disseminating public safety messages before and during the celebrations.

The Police Administration said it intends to build on the success of this year’s security operations through continued cooperation with communities and other stakeholders.

Authorities said maintaining a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors remains a priority as Antigua and Barbuda continues to host major national and international events.
