A 40-year-old Grays Farm man has been charged in connection with a break-in at Sunny Limited on Long Street, where more than EC$53,000 worth of merchandise and other property was allegedly stolen.

Police said Tony Fontaine has been charged with Breaking and Entering and Larceny, as well as Malicious Damage to the company’s CCTV system.

The break-in is alleged to have occurred sometime between August 10 and 11, when the business was entered and a substantial quantity of merchandise was taken.

Among the items reported stolen were sneakers and other footwear, clothing, jeans, school bags, suitcases and travelling bags, along with speakers, solar lights and solar radios.

A washing machine, refrigerator, card machine, children’s personal-care products and two DVR systems were also reported stolen.

Police have placed the total value of the stolen property at approximately EC$53,201.

Fontaine is also accused of damaging the company’s CCTV system during the alleged break-in. The surveillance system is valued at approximately EC$50,000.

He is expected to appear before the court today to answer to the charges.

  4. Over EC$53,000 in goods stolen, and yet again it feels like the honest, hardworking people of this country are the ones paying the price—literally!
Prison is way too sweet for criminals like this. The government really needs to step up and implement some actual hard labor instead of letting them lounge around, getting fat and hench while taxpayers foot the bill for their upkeep. Meanwhile, the rest of us are breaking our backs just trying to survive these trying times!
What do you all think? Should we bring back hard labor for convicted thieves, or is the current prison system just completely out of touch with reality?
