The investigation into the death of 16-year-old Jerbiah Paul has widened, with a 21-year-old woman formally charged and a third police officer arrested as authorities continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death.

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has identified the woman as Nyoka James of Marigot. She has been charged with perverting the course of justice.

Her charge comes as investigators continue to piece together what happened following Paul’s disappearance and the subsequent discovery of her remains.

James is not facing a murder charge, and police have indicated that the allegation against her is separate from the murder charges already brought in the case.

In another development, police have confirmed the arrest of a third officer in connection with the investigation.

Authorities have so far released no details about the officer’s identity or the circumstances that led to the arrest. It is also unclear whether the officer has been formally charged.

Two other police officers, Jean-Luc Rudy Langlais and Joshua Hamlet, have already been charged with murder in connection with Paul’s death. Both have been remanded to the State Prison pending further court proceedings.

Paul was reported missing on July 24. After weeks of searching, her remains were discovered in Capuchin on August 12.

The latest developments mean four people have now been arrested in connection with various aspects of the investigation, three of whom are police officers.

Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
