Browne Calls for Commonwealth to Focus on Trade and Investment as Glasgow Games Begin

Prime Minister Gaston Browne

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the United States has still not explained how Antigua and Barbuda could pose a national-security risk serious enough to justify visa restrictions.

Speaking Saturday, Browne said the government continued to engage US State Department officials and that he had written directly to President Donald Trump seeking clarity.

He described Antigua and Barbuda as a small country with no known hostile posture toward the United States and said the government was unaware of any specific incident that could explain the measures.

Browne also questioned the consistency of action taken against Caribbean Citizenship by Investment jurisdictions, observing that several affected countries maintain diplomatic relations with China while some aligned with Taiwan had not faced the same treatment.

He stressed that this was an observation, not a call for action against any other state.

The Prime Minister said direct access to a US president is difficult for the leader of a small developing country unless Washington arranges a wider regional engagement.

  1. Small islands like ours have to speak out. Look at what the US is now doing to Canada. Gassy dont let them squeeze us. We have nothing more to lose. Trump is sadistic he love when people suffer.

  2. “We are being punished because too many people with criminal backgrounds have our passports. These people seek US visas to enter America. Right now, there are more people living in America and Canada as Antiguan and Barbudan citizens who are not native-born citizens of Antigua and Barbuda. We keep giving people our passports without thorough background checks, including people from our own Caribbean islands. We keep focusing on people from Europe, Asia, and Arab countries who have acquired A&B citizenship, but our own neighboring Caribbean nations like Jamaica, Guyana, Haiti, Santo Domingo, and Venezuela can be just as dangerous to America as those larger countries.” America is protecting its borders from anyone with Antigua and Barbuda passport/citizenship.
