Residents in Potters Village are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently address an unfinished gutter that has reportedly been left unattended for weeks, resulting in a buildup of stagnant water and an increase in mosquitoes.

One resident said the gutter, located directly across the road from their home, was dug up for repair works but has yet to be completed.

According to the resident, marl stones that were expected to be used to complete the work remain at the site, while the gutter has since filled with green stagnant water.

The resident said the water has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and a habitat for frogs, making conditions increasingly uncomfortable for people living in the area, particularly during the evening hours.

“We cannot come out of our houses in the evening without being attacked by mosquitoes,” the resident said.

Residents are also concerned about the potential health risks posed by the stagnant water, including mosquito-borne illnesses such as dengue.

They are appealing to the Ministry of Public Works, APUA or whichever agency is responsible for the work to visit the area and complete the gutter as soon as possible.

Residents say they hope the problem can be addressed before conditions worsen and become a greater public health concern.
