Cody Gomes to Be Laid to Rest Today, Nearly Two Months After His Death

Nearly two months after his death, family and friends of 24-year-old Garth A. Cody Gomes will gather today to say their final goodbyes.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Beacon Light Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, September 1, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Gomes, who was born on October 13, 2001, died on July 6, 2026, after he was found unresponsive at his home in Swetes.

Police officers attached to the All Saints Police Station were called to the residence during the early hours of that Monday morning after a family member discovered Gomes suspended from a window with a restraint around his neck.

The discovery was reportedly made sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., prompting an immediate call to the authorities.

Police responded to the scene, and Gomes was later pronounced dead at approximately 7:45 a.m.

Investigators subsequently launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Gomes, a former employee of the Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank (ECAB), was later publicly identified, as news of his passing prompted an outpouring of grief among relatives, friends and others who knew him.

In the days following his death, the Wadadli Initiative for Self-care and Healing (WISH) extended condolences to his family, friends and the wider Swetes community.

The organisation also appealed for compassion and urged members of the public not to speculate or circulate sensitive information surrounding the circumstances of his death.

Police also called for the family’s privacy to be respected as they mourned.

Today, the focus shifts to Gomes’ life and the memories he leaves behind as loved ones gather at Beacon Light Church of the Nazarene for his final farewell.
