Government to Table List of Diplomatic Appointees in Parliament

The Government will formally place a list of Antigua and Barbuda’s diplomatic appointees before Parliament as part of new measures intended to improve transparency and public accountability.

Cabinet approved the initiative on Wednesday following a proposal from Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

The filing will create a formal public record of the people appointed to represent Antigua and Barbuda in diplomatic capacities.

Cabinet described the move as an important addition to the country’s governance framework, noting that diplomatic appointments carry significant public responsibilities.

Browne said the measure forms part of the Government’s continuing effort to ensure that public appointments are subject to an appropriate level of transparency.

No date was announced for the list to be filed.

Cabinet said the initiative, along with the public advertising of senior government vacancies, is intended to reinforce accountability, merit and public confidence in state institutions.
