Residents aged 40 and over in Glanvilles can now receive free vision screenings and, if eligible, reading glasses through the Prime Minister’s Vision Screening Initiative.
The programme is being conducted by the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs in partnership with RestoringVision. It aims to make basic vision care more accessible in local communities.
St. Philip’s North MP and Minister of State Randy Baltimore and St. Philip’s South MP and Minister of State Kiz Johnson visited the screening site. Both encouraged residents in their constituencies to attend and take advantage of the service.
Eligible residents are encouraged to visit the Glanvilles screening site for an assessment and free reading glasses.
Free screenings are certainly welcome, but the bigger question is whether this service will be available consistently across all communities, especially for people who cannot easily travel. Healthcare programmes should be accessible beyond occasional outreach events.
