Police have been directed to intensify enforcement and maintain a stronger presence in communities following discussions with the government’s senior ministers on Wednesday.

Cabinet called for sustained, intelligence-led operations to disrupt criminal activity and remove illegal firearms from the streets. It also urged officers to address smaller offences and acts of lawlessness alongside serious and violent crime.

The government said it would continue working to provide police and other security agencies with equipment, technology and resources to strengthen their operations.

Cabinet’s discussions came amid concern over recent gun violence. It said protecting communities requires coordinated work across border security, policing, prosecution and the justice system.

Acting Prime Minister Sir Steadroy Benjamin said the government was determined to support law enforcement agencies in their efforts to protect the public. Cabinet also appealed to citizens and residents to provide police with information that could help them recover illegal firearms and apprehend offenders.
