Police and customs officers seized 21 pounds of suspected cannabis, valued at approximately EC$126,000, during a joint operation at the Deep Water Harbour Cargo Shed on Wednesday.

Officers from the Narcotics Department and the Customs Enforcement Unit searched a brown E-Container cardboard box containing food items at about 11:30 a.m. Inside, they found a second box concealed among the goods. It held 21 vacuum-sealed packages of vegetable material resembling cannabis, police said.

The packages were taken to Police Headquarters, where the contents were weighed. Investigations into the shipment are continuing.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda said it will continue working with customs and other border-security partners to prevent illicit activity at the country’s ports of entry.
