A young man suffered minor scrapes after his leg became lodged in a sidewalk grating in St. John’s.
It took several minutes to free his leg from the opening. His injuries were reported to be minor.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of sidewalk gratings in the capital, where similar incidents have reportedly occurred before.
Gratings with openings that can trap a pedestrian’s foot or leg pose a hazard to people walking through the city. This latest occurrence highlights the need for inspections and repairs where necessary to help prevent further injuries.

Earlier this year, while on holiday, I tripped over an opening on the sidewalk. All my shopping, my pepperpot i just brought, went flying. The caring people who was close by came rushing to my aid. One helper said " it's not the first time this happen right here" I was determined to report it but was put off when I was told "miss don't waste your time" I still have a mark on my eye brow. I pray no one get seriously injured and someone take this serous. It was a miracle my pepperpot was intact and I was able to enjoy it.
