Grenada has welcomed 60 healthcare professionals from Ghana, following Antigua and Barbuda’s recruitment of more than 100 Ghanaian healthcare workers nearly a year earlier.

The group, which includes nurses, doctors and other medical personnel, arrived on October 13, 2026, under Ghana’s Labour Export Programme. An official welcoming ceremony was held on October 16.

The deployment is intended to strengthen Grenada’s healthcare services while providing overseas employment opportunities for Ghanaian professionals and deepening ties between the two countries.

Representatives of both governments attended the ceremony, highlighting the partnership’s significance for healthcare cooperation and the historical and cultural connections between Africa and the Caribbean.

Ghana’s Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, described the initiative as more than a placement of medical personnel. He said it reflected a shared commitment to professional development, improved healthcare and sustained bilateral cooperation.

Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell thanked Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting his country with the professionals and encouraged them to consider Grenada their home.

Mitchell said the healthcare workers were expected to serve for two years, although he expressed hope that their stay could extend beyond that period.

Welcoming them as brothers and sisters, he said there was no rush to leave when people felt at home, concluding with the Ghanaian greeting, “Akwaaba.”
