Sir Steadroy Benjamin Praises Turner’s Leadership in Delivering National Performing Arts Centre
The Attorney General welcomes the former Deluxe Cinema’s transformation and expresses confidence in security preparations for CHOGM.
Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin has praised Minister Rawdon Turner for his leadership in transforming the former Deluxe Cinema into the National Performing Arts Centre, saying the project reflects the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises.
Speaking to state media on the sidelines of last week’s opening, Sir Steadroy commended Turner, who has been at the forefront of efforts to convert the familiar building into a national home for artistic and cultural expression.
He also recognised the architects and workers whose efforts brought the transformation to life, providing a much-needed space for performances and other cultural activities.
For the Attorney General, the development carries personal significance. He described it as a rebirth for a building in the constituency where he grew up, giving a familiar landmark a new purpose in the country’s cultural life.
The centre’s opening marks a significant milestone for Antigua and Barbuda, creating a dedicated venue where local talent can be showcased and national cultural events can take place.
The facility will also take the international spotlight on November 3, when it hosts the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
Addressing preparations in his capacity as minister responsible for public safety, Sir Steadroy expressed confidence in the arrangements being made by the police and supporting forces to safeguard the gathering.
He credited Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene for his coordination of CHOGM preparations, saying repeated planning and preparation had placed the country in a strong position to provide for public safety during the event.
