Antigua and Barbuda Uses CHOGM to Showcase Conference Tourism Potential
Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez welcomes Commonwealth delegates as Antigua and Barbuda showcases its conference facilities, culture and visitor experiences.
Antigua and Barbuda is using its hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to promote its conference facilities and attract future international events.
The November 1–4 gathering will bring Commonwealth leaders and delegates to the country, providing a platform for tourism officials to showcase its capacity in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) market.
Meetings, forums and associated activities will take place at venues including the American University of Antigua, The Sticky Wicket, the Sir John E. St. Luce Finance and Conference Centre, and The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus.
Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment, Charles Fernandez, said the country’s recognition as the Caribbean’s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination 2025 at the World Travel Awards reflected its growing ability to accommodate major gatherings.
“It is a distinction that reflects our commitment to excellence, our growing capacity to host major international events, and our determination to ensure that every visitor enjoys an experience that is both productive and memorable,” Fernandez said in a video welcome message.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority see CHOGM as an opportunity to present the country’s conference infrastructure and hospitality services to a global audience, alongside the cultural attractions and experiences available to visiting groups.
Fernandez encouraged delegates to explore beyond their official engagements, highlighting Nelson’s Dockyard, Barbuda, local cuisine and the country’s artistic traditions.
“Take a journey through history at Nelson’s Dockyard, our UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore our breathtaking landscapes, discover the spectacular beauty of Barbuda, savour our authentic Caribbean cuisine, and immerse yourself in the music, art and traditions that give our nation its distinctive character,” he said.
The gathering also coincides with celebrations marking Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th anniversary of Independence, while the upcoming Art Week will offer another opportunity to showcase the country’s creative sector.
