More than 40 students from Antigua and Barbuda have earned degrees from Monroe University, joining hundreds of fellow graduates at its Saint Lucia campus commencement ceremony on October 18.

The ceremony, held at the Royalton St. Lucia Resort & Spa Auditorium in Gros Islet, celebrated the academic achievements of 318 students in the university’s Class of 2026.

Among the Antigua and Barbuda graduates was Anthony Dorsett, a Computer Networks and Cybersecurity major who graduated with summa cum laude honours. Dorsett also had the distinction of carrying Antigua and Barbuda’s national flag during the opening “Parade of Flags,” in which students represented the countries of the graduating class.

Monroe University President Marc Jerome joined senior university officials, faculty, staff, families and regional dignitaries for the celebration. Following the ceremony, Jerome gathered with the Antigua and Barbuda graduates for a commemorative photograph.

According to the university, its longstanding partnership with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda has helped make higher education more accessible and affordable through a scholarship programme supporting selected students each year.

The graduating class reflected the institution’s regional and international reach, with students from Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, St. Kitts and Nevis, Sint Maarten, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Graduates also came from the United States, Nicaragua and Nigeria.

Saint Lucia’s Minister for Education, Youth Development, Sports and Digital Transformation, Kenson Casimir, delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of his government.

The keynote address was delivered by Caribbean scholar, educator and public health specialist Dr. Damian Eisenghower Greaves, whose career spans education, government, healthcare policy and cultural development.

Dr. Ernest Ottley, Dean of Academics in Saint Lucia, announced the academic award recipients, while Dr. Jacinth Coultman, Vice President for Academic Affairs, presented the graduates to President Jerome for the formal conferral of degrees.

Founded in 1933, the New York-based university offers undergraduate and graduate programmes. Its Saint Lucia campus in Castries provides degree programmes in areas including allied health, business and accounting, criminal and social justice, hospitality management, and information technology.
