Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th Independence celebrations provided the setting for high-level discussions between Prime Minister Gaston Browne and King Charles III, with climate change, trade and reparations among the key issues raised.
The two held discussions on the margins of the Official Ceremonial Parade marking the nation’s 45th Anniversary of Independence, as the country welcomed the Commonwealth Head for the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
According to information released following the engagement, the discussions covered a range of matters of mutual interest, including the effects of climate change, trade among Commonwealth member states and the issue of reparations.
They also addressed matters surrounding Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of CHOGM 2026, which has brought Commonwealth leaders and representatives to the island for discussions on issues affecting member countries.
King Charles III, who serves as Head of the Commonwealth, is accompanied by Queen Camilla during the royal visit.
The engagement comes as Antigua and Barbuda takes centre stage in the Commonwealth, using its hosting of the summit to bring issues of importance to the region and the wider organisation into focus.
