Antigua and Barbuda has demonstrated exceptional leadership, organisational capability and world-class hospitality in hosting the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2026, placing the twin-island nation firmly in the international spotlight.

The gathering of Commonwealth leaders, heads of government, distinguished dignitaries and international representatives from across the 56-member Commonwealth family demonstrated our talents and expertise for a small island developing state.

More importantly, it has proved that Antigua and Barbuda lacks nothing when it comes to delivering on the international stage, and that our size does not determine our ability.

The successful coordination of an international gathering of this magnitude requires strategic planning, execution and most importantly leadership. The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, under the leadership of, The Right Honorable, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, has demonstrated that leadership does indeed matter.

When we examine the level of work that went in to getting us to this point, we have no doubt that the Government deserves an A+. From security arrangements, transportation, accommodation, conference facilities and ceremonial activities, what we witnessed reflect a coordinated national effort involving public servants, security agencies, private-sector partners and ordinary citizens.

The logistical arrangements undertaken to facilitate the meeting were excellent. These efforts are particularly commendable considering the operational and financial demands associated with hosting such a prestigious international event.

Beyond the formal meetings, one of the country’s greatest achievements has been its ability to showcase our talents in front of the entire world. One of the most impressive event was the opening ceremony at the National Performing Arts Center.

While I must applaud Minister Rawdon Turner for delivering such an outstanding facility, I must pause to recognize the wonderful young people who showcased how talented we are.

From the dramatic performance, to the melodious singing and sweet pan music, our guests left there today with nothing short of what can be described as par excellence.

The arrival of international dignitaries, including Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, has provided an opportunity to present the country’s culture, heritage and national identity to a global audience.

The King’s expression of appreciation for the outstanding hospitality extended by the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda is a significant endorsement of our country’s affectionate spirit. Antigua and Barbuda has demonstrated that small countries, such as ours can compare with any other country when it comes to hospitality and talent.

We have successfully positioned ourselves as a destination capable of hosting world leaders no matter from where they come. While the government deserves every commendation for its handling of CHOGM, much attention must be focused on the individuals who worked tirelessly to make it happen.

The contribution of public officers, law enforcement personnel, tourism workers, hotel operators, transportation providers, volunteers, cultural groups and the wider business community cannot be ignored.

Every individual and organisation that have contributed to making visitors feel welcome has played a part in presenting a positive image of Antigua and Barbuda to the world. The global visibility, investment opportunities, tourism promotion and stronger diplomatic relationships must translate into meaningful and lasting benefits for our people.

As CHOGM 2026 continues, Antigua and Barbuda has every reason to feel proud. Hosting this event has sent a strong message to the world, and that message is clear. It is a statement of national capability and confidence. It demonstrates that our Antigua and Barbuda is prepared to engage the international community, participate in global discussions and assume responsibilities that extend far beyond our geographical size.

Antigua and Barbuda has shown that with effective leadership, careful planning, national cooperation and a commitment to excellence, a small state can achieve extraordinary things.
