Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene has highlighted partnerships and investment as important tools for strengthening small and vulnerable Commonwealth countries.

Speaking at the opening of CHOGM 2026 in Antigua and Barbuda, Greene said cooperation must help countries build lasting prosperity while improving their ability to withstand challenges.

His remarks connected the summit’s investment agenda with the everyday priorities of member states, including economic opportunity, community safety and resilience.

Greene said the Commonwealth’s strength rested in its people, the connections between nations, the diversity of their experiences and their willingness to work together.

The meeting, he argued, offered an opportunity to renew those connections and make them more useful to citizens.

He encouraged delegates to pursue ambitious partnerships and listen carefully to the perspectives of other members.

Greene also acknowledged Samoa’s stewardship as the previous Commonwealth chair, thanking the government and people for their service and work in advancing shared priorities.

As Antigua and Barbuda welcomed the gathering, he said the focus must remain on cooperation that delivers practical improvements across member countries.
