The search for missing 90-year-old Willikies resident Akley Roberts has ended tragically after his body was discovered on an unoccupied plot of land just 100 feet from his backyard on Wednesday morning.
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda confirmed the discovery in a statement issued Thursday, November 5, revealing that Roberts was found by a search team at approximately 7:00 a.m. on November 4.
The District Medical Doctor was subsequently called to the scene and pronounced him dead at 8:42 a.m.
Police said there were no signs of foul play, although investigations remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
Roberts had been reported missing earlier in the week, prompting a search and public appeals for information about his whereabouts.
His disappearance had also attracted attention on social media, where residents were encouraged to share missing-person notices in the hope of locating him safely.
The discovery of his body brought the search to a tragic conclusion, with police yet to disclose further details surrounding his death.
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has extended sincere condolences to Roberts’ family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
The police also expressed appreciation to members of the public and everyone who assisted in the search.
