The Ministry of Works has strongly condemned an incident of deliberate damage to machinery used in ongoing road improvement projects across Antigua and Barbuda.

In a public statement, the Ministry expressed concern over the damage to equipment considered essential to the delivery of upgrades to the nation’s road network.

The Ministry described the incident as deliberate, although it did not disclose where the damage occurred, the type of machinery affected or the extent of the damage.

The equipment forms part of ongoing efforts to improve major roadways and community roads throughout the country.

Despite the incident, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to continuing road improvement works, stressing that the damage would not change its focus on upgrading the nation’s infrastructure.

It also expressed appreciation to members of the public for their continued support and cooperation as road construction and rehabilitation projects progress.

“We remain grateful to the public for their support and cooperation, and steadfastly committed to delivering continued progress as we upgrade the major arteries and community roads that connect us all,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry did not indicate whether the incident had been reported to the police or whether any investigation was underway.
