Ambassador Calvin Ayre has reaffirmed the Ayre Group's commitment to Antigua and Barbuda's development, declaring that the benefits of hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) must extend well beyond the departure of international leaders and delegates.

Ayre, who congratulated Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the people of Antigua and Barbuda on the successful staging of the summit, said the country's achievement should serve as a foundation for greater investment, employment opportunities and economic growth.

Antigua and Barbuda made history as the smallest country to host CHOGM, welcoming Commonwealth leaders and delegations for the high-level gathering.

Reflecting on the event, Ayre praised the organisers, volunteers and citizens who contributed to its success, describing the occasion as a demonstration of the nation's capabilities on the international stage.

“Antigua and Barbuda has just shown the world that the size of a country says nothing about the size of its ambition. I have never been prouder of our islands. Prime Minister Gaston Browne, the organisers, the volunteers and everyone who welcomed our guests deserve enormous credit for making CHOGM such a success,” Ayre said.

However, the ambassador stressed that the country's next priority should be converting the international exposure gained from hosting the summit into meaningful and lasting opportunities for its citizens.

“But there is something even more important than hosting the world and that is what we do with the attention after it leaves,” he said.

“I want the legacy to be young Antiguans building companies, local people gaining better skills and good jobs, and investment that keeps giving back to this country. That is why the Ayre Group supported CHOGM, and why our work does not stop when the last delegation returns home.”

His remarks underscore the Ayre Group's stated intention to maintain its involvement in Antigua and Barbuda's development beyond the Commonwealth gathering.

The successful hosting of CHOGM 2026 provided Antigua and Barbuda with an opportunity to showcase its hospitality, organisational capabilities and potential as a destination for international investment and collaboration.

For Ayre, however, the true measure of the summit's success will be determined by the opportunities it creates for Antiguans and Barbudans in the years ahead.

The Ayre Group has reiterated its commitment to supporting that long-term development, with Ayre placing particular emphasis on entrepreneurship, workforce development and investment that delivers lasting benefits to the country.
