Antigua and Barbuda paid tribute to those who died in the First and Second World Wars on Sunday, November 8, during its annual National Day of Remembrance service at the War Memorial on Independence Avenue.

Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams, Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle were among the dignitaries who laid wreaths in honour of the fallen.

Ex-service men and women joined members of the armed forces and other uniformed organisations for the solemn observance, which featured four sentries and the Defence Force Band.

The Very Reverend Dwane Cassius, Dean of the Anglican Cathedral, delivered a blessing. Buglers sounded the Last Post before a two-minute silence, followed by the Reveille. The sentries also performed the ceremonial ordering and presenting of arms.

Wreaths were laid by Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers, a representative of ex-service men and women, members of the Diplomatic Corps, the National Cadet Corps and other uniformed bodies.

The observance included a march-past, with participating units paying their respects at the Cenotaph.

The annual ceremony commemorates those who fell during the First World War, fought from 1914 to 1918, and the Second World War, from 1939 to 1945.
